They Deal With It.

They Deal With It.

Isaiah 1:2-3

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth;

for the Lord has spoken:

“Children have I reared and brought up,

but they have rebelled against me.

The ox knows its owner,

and the donkey its master’s crib,

but Israel does not know,

my people do not understand.”

Isaiah was a prophet in the Old Testament who lived his life 700 years before the birth of Christ.  Isaiah is regarded as one of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament because of his foretelling of Christ.  The best know prophesy from Isaiah would be 7:14:

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Isaiah 1:2-3 attracted me because of it’s reference to people rebelling against God because of their arrogance.  Isaiah writes that the people, who have been given this gift of life, now rebel against God.  God has given life to man, brought Israel out of bondage, removed those intent on destroying Israel, given them judges and kings.  God has given them all of this and prosperity and yet they turn to idols and false gods. Children Whose Heart Is Set To Evil

Children Whose Heart Is Set To Evil

Ecclesiastes 8:11

Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil.

We have all asked the question how do such evil people get away with doing such evil things and yet here I am toiling away doing it the right way and getting nowhere?

In Ecclesiastes 8:11 King Solomon is addressing that question because just as today, people had the same thoughts in ancient times.  To quote Solomon, “there is nothing new under the sun”. Continue reading

They Do Grow Up and They Are Going to Be OK

They Do Grow Up and They Are Going to Be OK

Thought I would repost this for Father’s Day, its from 2015.

Today I wanted to write about a nice moment in my life that happened the other day.

My mother had been in the hospital for a couple of days.  She had been suffering from acute anemia among other issues.  The doctors could not seem to figure out the cause.  All the tests had come back normal.

My father was home alone and is capable of taking care of himself but was having issues with his land line phone. He could call out but incoming calls were going directly to voice mail.  Both my mom and dad have cell phones but never have them turned on.  You know it might run up the bill if they were to leave them on.

My son was doing the weekly mowing for my grandfather’s estate.  One parcel of land that he mows for the estate is located adjacent to my mom and dad’s house. Continue reading

We Have Lost Our Tribes

We Have Lost Our Tribes

“We have lost our tribes.”

This is a note I wrote to myself after having a conversation with my wife.  We were discussing all the different sodas, or pops depending on where you live, in glass bottles that they sell in the little cafe where she works.  They carry various brands and flavors that you don’t find in any one particular large chain grocery store or franchised mini mart.

My wife asked me if I remembered the brands and flavors they use to have at the church picnics we would attend when we were kids. Continue reading
