I read this verse from the Bible and even though it was written thousands of years ago one place from today immediately came to mind.
Read it and see if you think the same as I do.
Isaiah Chapter 1 Verses 21 through 23:
How the faithful city
has become a whore,
she who was full of justice!
Righteousness lodged in her,
but now murderers.
Your silver has become dross,
your best wine mixed with water.
Your princes are rebels
and companions of thieves.
Everyone loves a bribe
and runs after gifts.
They do not bring justice to the fatherless,
and the widow’s cause does not come to them.
Did you guess Washington D.C.?
These words are from the prophet Isaiah and they are quite prophetic. He wasn’t specifically speaking about Washington D.C., but he was.
Isaiah saw the corruption of power, prestige, wealth and vanity. Washington D.C. has plenty of that to go around.
Isaiah is addressing the very human nature of man, the nature that breeds corruption in all societies throughout history. The larger and more powerful an entity becomes the more corrupt it becomes.
The level of corruption in a person, organization, government or any entity is in direct proportion to the amount of power they wield.
So to all of you that think the next politician running for Congress or Governor or President is going to step in and clear up everything I say grow up.
Government by nature is corrupt. Government is power and power corrupts.
In the words of John Emerich Edward Dalberg Acton, “Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.”
The prophet Isaiah knew this over 5000 years ago and he didn’t even have the internet.
