And now, go, write it before them on a tablet
and inscribe it in a book,
that it may be for the time to come
as a witness forever.
For they are a rebellious people,
children unwilling to hear
the instruction of the Lord;
who say to the seers, “Do not see,”
and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right;
speak to us smooth things,
I thought these verses coincided with much of what I see in the world today. I guess it’s always been like this.
Israel is seeking salvation from Egypt, which would upset anyone who knows their history with Egypt. Here is a people who were previously enslaved by the Egyptians and now they are willing to buy protection from the Egyptians. They are willing to potentially give up their freedom in order to have the perception of being safe.
The Lord instructs Isaiah to write in the history books what the Israelites are going to do, so future generations can see the folly in their actions. Future generations need to learn about the folly of sacrificing liberty and freedom that was given by God in order to make your life more comfortable. They need to see the vanity of giving up that which is given to you by God in order to avoid the hardships of life. There is no skating around it. Through man the Israelites are pursuing false hope.
What do the Israelites say to the prophets who speak the hard to swallow truth about righteousness, sacrifice and hard work? Verse 10 tells us and it’s just like today with our politicians, the modern day false prophets.
Do not prophesy to us what is right;
speak to us smooth things,
That is exactly what we say today. I really can’t blame the false prophets because these whores only do and say what will get them elected. Honesty, truth and righteousness have nothing to do with it.
We need to blame ourselves for wanting to be coddled and be told that we have a right to everything under the sun. We want to hear, “You shouldn’t have to work for that, you shouldn’t have to suffer for what is right, you shouldn’t have to learn to take care of yourself. Just sit back, be stupid, and allow us to remove all your cares.” We want to hear “smooth things” and all the political harlots are more than glad to accommodate.
We place our trust in man and do as Isaiah says in verse 12:
…despise this word
and trust in oppression and perverseness
and rely on them…
But I guess this is the nature of man, to trust in others who profess smooth things. And so is the nature of politics and governments, to prophesy illusions while oppressing and perverting.
Trust in yourself. Trust in yourself with God in your heart, for there lies the liberty from oppression.
