Three thoughts from the Book of Ecclesiastes and the wisdom of King Solomon.
Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun.
Solomon certainly understood the importance of having a wife, a partner, someone whom you love, to share the experiences of your toil.
But since he had 700 wives and 300 concubines maybe he was trying to say pick one because one true love is more than enough for any man.
Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor bread to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.
Solomon knows that a lot of unfair things happen in this world and we will never understand why. So your best bet is to eat, drink and be happy in your toil for all is vanity like the wind.
The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools.
Again Solomon understands how all is vanity and what is important is you getting yourself right spiritually.
I am sure King Solomon did plenty of shouting among fools but knew the importance of the quiet words of wisdom.
We are hearing plenty of shouting from the would be rulers who are taking us for fools. And we are fools as we continually allow them to condescend to us in hope of them lessening our toil.
Notice Solomon doesn’t say anything about wisdom coming out of the mouth of rulers.
So let me sum up the three verses I covered today:
Be happy in your toil with the person you love because what the rulers promise you is nothing but vanity like the wind. Life is about the simple quiet moments.
