Coffee, Donuts And A Cigarette

Coffee, donuts and a cigarette
These are the times I remember best
Long ago just you and me
A future ahead, no responsibilities

Up late at night, no cares for the day
Living in love in the moment we’d stay
Glass for walls, a counter half round
Smoked filled room, the people from town
Fluorescent lights, sugar in the air
Smelling the beans as we sit there
Cup in the left, smoke in the right
Nothing else mattered for the rest of the night

Coffee, donuts and a cigarette
These are the times I remember best
Long ago just you and me
The future’s tomorrow, tonight we are free

Dreaming through the day, at night we would rest
Thinking which part of love we loved best
I knew you and you knew me
Nights of romance fueled by our weed
Movie, a dinner, a meal we would split
The pieces so big it all seemed to fit
When it was all over one place we’d end up
Coffee and smokes at our donut shop

Coffee, donuts and a cigarette
These are the times I remember best
Long ago just you and me
Where did they go, what will we be

The kids they moved out and we’re alone
Where the air is warm we’ll make our home
The smokes they are gone, the coffee’s decaf
The donuts are bad, they’ll just make us fat
Now late at night when we lie in bed
The sleep of the old is what fills our head
But I’ll always have you and you’ll have me
And we’ll never lose our donut memories

Coffee, donuts and a cigarette
These are the times I remember best
Long ago just you and me
The future is here, where I want to be
