Empty Nothings

Dance to a rhythm the deaf have heard
Listen to the songs of a mute
Wrangle through this dirty world
In an alabaster suit
I wait for you to arrive
Transparent as old milk glass
A train on tracks that I have earned
Not for you to pass
Muse a tale that has no story
Babble in my heart
Run the race of counter glory
The one you never start
Come to me with gladness
That kind that helps me morn
The kind that earns a mother’s pride
Along with father’s scorn
Do not deceive with your smile
As you tell the truth
Then you’ll find it may be time
To cut this love quite loose

Will you comfort me with empty nothings
Will you sing and move no air
Will you fill my world with vacant promises
Will you stand and not be there

I have told you so many words
That never left my mouth
Been so many places
And haven’t left the house
My eyes have seen what my mind has thought
Never to be true
An image where a picture was
Covered all in blue
Do not shout your whispers
As a better way proclaimed
To make my life a paradise
In the swamps down where you reign
Soar to the bottom of the pit
To depths that you deserve
Covered in your pompous stance
With sheep that you have herd
As you grumble a broken smile
And face each lovely day
Blind eyes cover every page
Of the paper you have laid

Will you comfort me with empty nothings
Will you sing and move no air
Will you fill my world with vacant promises
Will you stand and not be there
