“Of Mice and Men” is one of my favorite movies, the original 1939 version not the remakes.
Both “Of Mice and Men” and “The Grapes of Wrath” are in my top ten list of movies. I have watched both of these movies numerous times but oddly enough I never read the books. So over this past summer while I was on a long weekend vacation at the beach I finally sat down and read “Of Mice and Men”.
There is one part in this story where I thought John Steinbeck had captured the dreams of every common working man. Continue reading
This is a quick follow up to my previous posts about the “carnival hucksters” who peddle their false prophecies, their so called super natural abilities to see and speak to the departed, to see the future and relive the past, etc., etc..
Check out these posts: So Much Hokum, Hokum For Profit, Household Gods, The Modern Day Shrine For Household Gods
As you can see from the links above I have written a number of posts on this subject and I just want to pass along on more piece from the Bible. Continue reading
Daniel answered the king and said, “No wise men, enchanters, magicians, or astrologers can show to the king the mystery that the king has asked, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head as you lay in bed are these: To you, O king, as you lay in bed came thoughts of what would be after this, and he who reveals mysteries made known to you what is to be. But as for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because of any wisdom that I have more than all the living, but in order that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your mind.
I have always looked at mediums, palm readers, fortune tellers, psychics, clairvoyants, etc., with extreme skepticism.
I find all of them no matter how famous or infamous to be nothing more that sideshow carnival hucksters. The ones who achieve prominence are just better showmen and businessmen. Continue reading
This post is about a dream that I had. It was a strange dream, but a dream that I am pretty sure I can interpret.
The dream shows how things that are stored away in your subconscious combined with your conscious can manifest itself in a dream.
I want to write about it before the details begin to fade.
I was in a small town. I have no idea where this town was or what it was called. I can recall the details of the streets and the buildings but I can’t connect it with anywhere I have been in recent memory.
I remember a parking lot on a hill, a McDonalds and a red pickup truck with the rear driver’s side door handle missing. Continue reading
Reading the Bible has been teaching me life lessons.
That is its purpose. No matter what you do or don’t believe there is much knowledge and wisdom to be gained from this book.
I was thinking about the Israelites and how Moses brought them out of the bondage of Egypt.
Just about everyone over the age of 50 has seen Cecil B DeMille’s classic movie “The Ten Commandments”. I believe it’s still on TV around Easter and Passover. Continue reading
Last night I had a series of odd unrelated dreams. Dreams that really made no sense, the kind of dreams that you have a hard time remembering. But when you open your eyes the next morning you feel just a bit off kilter for a few moments until you really wake up and get your day started.
I seem to dream in spurts. I’ll have a number of nights in a row where I will dream every night.
It almost seems like the older I get the more I dream.
Some dreams are extremely vivid. When I wake up I can remember almost every detail as if I just lived it. Some dreams are just jumping around for one nonsensical situation to another.
Some dreams seem to be trying to tell me something. They are prophetic in nature. Continue reading
I have written about my wife and my intentions of moving south.
Originally I had picked a five year plan. I picked five years because in five years I will be 62. For some reason I have this notion that if by the time I’m 62 and I haven’t made the move then I won’t feel much like starting over somewhere else.
I do know that after 57 winters in the northeast I have had enough. I plan to accelerate making the move.
We have been thinking about southern Georgia, southern Alabama and Florida. I did like Texas, especially the La Grange area but land seems to be a bit pricey and you’re a long way from the beach. At this point it looks like Florida. There’s a lot of beach in Florida and that pleases my wife.
Anyway one night when we started the process of looking at what type of properties are available in these areas my wife asked me how I was finding all the houses that I was showing her online. She said to me “This may sound stupid but I want to look up homes in these areas, I need something to dream about. Continue reading
