Express Yourself

Express Yourself

Jeremiah 31:4

Again I will build you, and you shall be built,
    O virgin Israel!
Again you shall adorn yourself with tambourines
    and shall go forth in the dance of the merrymakers.

Jeremiah 31:12-13

They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion,
    and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the Lord,
over the grain, the wine, and the oil,
    and over the young of the flock and the herd;
their life shall be like a watered garden,
    and they shall languish no more.
 Then shall the young women rejoice in the dance,
    and the young men and the old shall be merry.
I will turn their mourning into joy;
    I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow.

This post isn’t very long.  All I want to do is site some more examples of how making and listening to music is referenced in the Bible for expressing emotions, mainly joy and celebration. Continue reading

Good And Evil – Deal With It

Good And Evil – Deal With It

I thought I would share one of the most important lessons I have learned from the Bible.

It came to me as one of those “aha” moments.

I have written about the prophets in the Bible and how their words of prophesy still apply today.  Continue reading

Evil Lies In The Heart

Evil Lies In The Heart

Evil lies in the hearts of man.

Mark 7:21

Far from within, out of the heart of man comes evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery.

My wife purchased a unique wall decoration.  It was a mask with two faces, some ram horns and a rat on the forehead.  We didn’t have any idea what it was, what is was about or where it may have originated.  All we knew was that it was a unique piece.

So my wife decided to post a picture on Facebook to see if any of her “friends” had any idea what it was or where it came from.  She was looking for any information on the piece. Continue reading

Strengthening Your Righteousness Muscle

Strengthening Your Righteousness Muscle

Jeremiah 12:1-4

Righteous are you, O Lord,
    when I complain to you;
    yet I would plead my case before you.
Why does the way of the wicked prosper?
    Why do all who are treacherous thrive?
You plant them, and they take root;
    they grow and produce fruit;
you are near in their mouth
    and far from their heart.
But you, O Lord, know me;
    you see me, and test my heart toward you.
Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter,
    and set them apart for the day of slaughter.
How long will the land mourn
    and the grass of every field wither?
For the evil of those who dwell in it
    the beasts and the birds are swept away,
    because they said, “He will not see our latter end.”

The English Standard Version of the Bible gives verses one through four the title: “Jeremiah’s Complaint”.  Some of the commentaries I have read about these verses state that this is not Jeremiah quarreling with God, or attempting to quarrel with God, but it is a plea.  I would say a plea for justice. The Fall – A Loss Of Innocence

The Fall – A Loss Of Innocence

Genesis 3 deals with what is simply known as “The Fall”.

I am sure most everyone knows this story.  The story of how God gave man the Garden of Eden. A paradise which contained everything man would need to fulfill his spiritual and physical needs.

Genesis 2:15-17

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.

God had given man all that he needed, just as Solomon realized thousands of years later, God had given man everything from the moment of creation.  In the Garden of Eden man had all he needed to eat and drink and be happy in his toil.

But vanity took its toll on Eve as the serpent enticed her with covetousness, enticed her to seek and want that which she did not have, that which she did not need. Continue reading
