Who Made You Royal Counselor?

Who Made You Royal Counselor?

2 Chronicles 25:14-16

After Amaziah came from striking down the Edomites, he brought the gods of the men of Seir and set them up as his gods and worshiped them, making offerings to them. Therefore the Lord was angry with Amaziah and sent to him a prophet, who said to him, “Why have you sought the gods of a people who did not deliver their own people from your hand?” But as he was speaking, the king said to him, “Have we made you a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” So the prophet stopped, but said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”

Amaziah became king of Judah after his father Joash was assassinated by his own servants.  Joash laid severely wounded in his bed and his servants finished him off.  This was in retribution for Joash commanding the stoning of Zechariah, who was a prominent priest who help Joash restore the temple of the Lord.

Joash became powerful and full of himself. One day the princes came to Joash to pay homage and with them they brought their false gods.  Joash being convinced of his own greatness abandoned God and turned to the false Gods.  Zechariah came to Joash and called him out on his idolatry, but Joash’s response was to have Zechariah killed.  Joash’s pride caused him to make a bad decision, which finally caught up to him as he lay wounded in bed.

Amaziah, Joash’s son, succeeds his father as king of Judah. Continue reading

Robbed Of The Honor They Deserved

Robbed Of The Honor They Deserved

War is inevitable.

It has been with us throughout time and will continue to the end.

It may very well cause the end.

It has and will always be barbaric.  It just gets less messy for those who have to deliver the fatal blow or maybe I should say those who command those delivering the fatal blow.

It affects countless lives.

It affects those directly involved and it affect those not directly involved.

I have been fortunate to have never known or felt the horrors of war.  I make no pretense to understanding the affects of war on those who have experienced it firsthand. Continue reading

An Appalling And Horrible Thing

An Appalling And Horrible Thing

Here are some quick thoughts on a Bible verse that caught my attention.

The verse is Jeremiah 5:30-31:

An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: the prophets prophesy falsely and the priest rule at their direction.  My people love to have it so, but what will you do when the end comes?

When I read those two verses something inside my head told me to remember them.

When I read it my thoughts do not go to the ancient temples and courts of Israel.  My thoughts go to the modern temples and courts of Washington DC.

I thought how once again I have come across ancient Biblical prophesies that are applicable today. Continue reading

Edith and Rob’s Amazing Dinner, Now That’s Important.

Edith and Rob’s Amazing Dinner, Now That’s Important.

I’ve written about how the media and government try to manipulate us.

I’ve written about the rapid growth of the internet and social media and how we trivialize and misuse words, like friends, awesome, amazing, and epic.

I’ve written about business taking phrases that use to have an emotional attachment and turning them into meaningless buzz words like “reach out”.

Now I have been thinking about how government and media have trivialized aspects of our society that use to be sacred.  I thought why did the government set out to trivialize these things?

Here are some examples of things that the government and media have been systematically reducing in value. Continue reading

It’s All About Priorities

It’s All About Priorities

Priorities, sometimes it’s all about priorities, and sometimes it’s all about how out of whack they have become.

Now if you subscribe to some of the conspiracy theorist, about how our priorities are set, it may have something to do with the government.  It has to do with the government’s control of the media and the government using the media to distract the people from what is really going on.

To tell you the truth there are a number of days I buy into that theory.

So what has me wondering about where we are heading as a society?  It’s some rather mundane items from 2015 that became big news and then just went away.

There was a period last year when all the rage contrived by the media, both network and social media was about animals on both a national and local level. Continue reading
