Set The Mind

Set The Mind

Romans 5:5-8

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.  For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.  Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

I have written before about these ideas that Paul, Christ and the prophets have been preaching for thousands of years.  It is a common theme throughout religion, for religious beliefs are in the spirit, not in the flesh, the world. Continue reading

“In Peace I Will Both Lie Down and Sleep.”

“In Peace I Will Both Lie Down and Sleep.”

Psalms 4:8

In peace I will both lie down and sleep.  For you alone O Lord make me dwell in safety.

One of my favorite, if not the favorite, books of the Bible is the book of Proverbs.

Every morning as part of my daily ritual I read a chapter or two or more depending on their length, the amount of time I have available and how well my eyes are functioning without my glasses.

Over the past number of years I have done this ritual of reading the Bible from beginning to end.  I am currently on my fourth or fifth time of completely reading it cover to cover.

The one book that I always look forward to reading is Proverbs. Continue reading
