First Share Of The Crops

First Share Of The Crops

2 Timothy 2:6-7

It is the hardworking farmer who ought to have first share of the crops.  Think over what I say for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

I have written about why government is so adamant about separation of church and state and how they have perverted the original intentions of this concept.

I fully agree with the edict of our founding fathers that there should not be an established official religion of the state.  No one belief should be the law of the land.

But the ruling political class has seen the danger that religion, especially the Judeo-Christian values, pose to their power. Continue reading

Why Governments Don’t Want Religion

Why Governments Don’t Want Religion

This morning I read Psalms Chapter 35 Verse 10 which is:

“All my bones shall say ‘O Lord who is like you, delivering the poor from him who is too strong for him, the poor and needy from him who robs him?’”

As soon as I read that verse I had a revelation.

I said to myself, “This is why governments want to rid themselves of religion, or the other extreme, why they want to control the religion of the state.”

This verse, as does God, gives hope to the oppressed which is something the oppressor does not want.

It tells the subjects of the government that there is a higher power, a higher authority.  Governments do not want their subjects to believe that. Continue reading

Grope In Darkness, Stagger Like Drunkards

Grope In Darkness, Stagger Like Drunkards

Every morning I start the day with my routine, the three S’s.   While taking care of the first S I read my Bible.  I’m multi tasking.

I’m not a guy who wears his religion on his sleeve.

Although my religion was given to me by my parents, when it comes to my religion I don’t have the same perspective as my parents.

It’s mine and only mine and I don’t expect it to be yours.  Live and let live.

I do find The Bible a tremendous source of wisdom and knowledge and I have read through it cover to cover a number of times.

On this current read through I am at the point where I am getting to some of my favorite books like Job, Proverbs and Psalms.

These books not only teach but inspire. Continue reading

Tax Day – Oh Boy!

Tax Day – Oh Boy!

“The power to tax is the power to destroy.” John Marshall
― John Marshall

It is tax day today so I thought today would be a good day to post something I wrote a few weeks ago about taxes.

I did taxes over the weekend.  I did my taxes, my kid’s taxes, my mom and dad’s taxes and my mother-in-law’s taxes.

There was a moment in doing all these taxes that stuck with me and I wanted to write about it.

I’m not going to get political in this piece, probably never will in this blog.

Politics are a good way to alienate people and that’s the last thing that I want to do.  I have my political beliefs but like religion they are mine, personal and private.  My political beliefs are mine to take into the voting booth, in secrecy.  Some inklings of where I stand may slip out but generally I’ll be more philosophical than political.

What I will tell you is that no matter what side of the aisle the politicians are on I subscribe to the fact that they all are tainted.  Perhaps some more than others but they get the stink of corruption on them when they walk through the doors of power.

“To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.”

I’m not saying they are bad people, it’s just human nature.

Tax time isn’t a very happy time for me.  I look at what I make and then what was taken from me before I even had a chance to imagine it in my hands and it upsets me.

So now I’m doing my taxes and guess what, they want even more than what they have already confiscated.

I use Turbo Tax.  I’ve used it for at least the last ten years maybe even longer. Continue reading
