James 3:3-5
If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
A previous post about the book of James (Shut Up and Listen) dealt with the subject of the unbridled tongue and its consequences. I cited James 1:19-20 where James tells the followers to shut up and listen, think before you speak. For a quick retort can lead to anger and anger does not produce righteousness.
James goes on to speak of the problems of a swift and sharp tongue. Continue reading
