The Three Most Overused and Misused Words On Social Media

The Three Most Overused and Misused Words On Social Media

Today’s post is about three of the most overused and misused words on social media and mass media.

When I was younger I don’t recall these words being used so liberally across the fabric of society.  I guess it’s just more results from the dumbing down of civilization.

From what I see and read the bar has been set pretty low and keeps getting lower.

OK, so what are these three overused and misused words? Continue reading

Never Correct A Scoffer

Never Correct A Scoffer

Proverbs 9:7-12

Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse,
and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury.
Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you;
reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
For by me your days will be multiplied,
and years will be added to your life.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself;
if you scoff, you alone will bear it.

Sound advice for all of us. Continue reading

We Have Lost Our Tribes

We Have Lost Our Tribes

“We have lost our tribes.”

This is a note I wrote to myself after having a conversation with my wife.  We were discussing all the different sodas, or pops depending on where you live, in glass bottles that they sell in the little cafe where she works.  They carry various brands and flavors that you don’t find in any one particular large chain grocery store or franchised mini mart.

My wife asked me if I remembered the brands and flavors they use to have at the church picnics we would attend when we were kids. Continue reading

The Truth In The Middle

The Truth In The Middle

Deuteronomy 19:15-19

A single witness shall not suffice against a person for any crime or for any wrong in connection with any offense that he has committed. Only on the evidence of two witnesses or of three witnesses shall a charge be established. If a malicious witness arises to accuse a person of wrongdoing, then both parties to the dispute shall appear before the Lord, before the priests and the judges who are in office in those days. The judges shall inquire diligently, and if the witness is a false witness and has accused his brother falsely, then you shall do to him as he had meant to do to his brother. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

I read this and thought how far we have moved away from this basic law, rule, guideline, whatever you choose to call it.

The purpose of this law in the ancient times of Israel is self-evident.

You can’t accept the accusations of one person against another.  As humans we all, at some point have had an ax to grind with someone along the way.  And malicious or not we all just blurt out stupid nonsensical things. Continue reading

Watch Out On Top

Watch Out On Top

Daniel 6: 1-5

It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, with three administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king might not suffer loss.  Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.  At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.  Finally these men said, “We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.”

In this day and age with so much media, mass media, social media, etc., it’s very easy for everyone to voice their opinions.

Therefore it’s an everyday occurrence to see the person who’s on top being pulled down by those who are jealous of the top person’s success, for whatever reason.

That’s something that’s been going on since the dawn of man. Continue reading

Is It Time for the Tin Foil Hats?

Is It Time for the Tin Foil Hats?

I don’t know if it’s time for the tin foil hats but some recent events and events over the past year have got me wondering.

I don’t get political in this blog but sometimes I need to express some thoughts about government and politics that apply across the board, ideas that span across both sides of the aisle.

You couldn’t help but see all the media coverage both mainstream and social of the recent riots in Baltimore.  It was pretty much the same for the Ferguson riots and others due to police incidents over the past year.

I’m not going to get into who was right or who was wrong in any of those situations, but I will give you my thoughts on the rioting and looting that ensued and then I’ll get to the tin foil hats.

Here it is. Continue reading
